I currently have the Galaxy DX 959 that I like pretty well. It puts out around 40 watts or so peaked and tuned. I saw a gentleman selling a broken Connex 3300 with (from what he said) that needs a new 1969 final. He said he'd sell it to me for $75. I know a guy at the cb shop who could fix the 1969 final for what he said, $40.
Should I buy that Connex or leave it be? $75 seems to be kind of expensive for a radio that doesn't work. Plus, my Galaxy is nice, but I was wanting to use that for home usage.

Connex 3300HP run around $250-$300, $75 for the radio and $40. For repair doesn't sound to bad, if that's all it takes to get the radio back working,

I was just worried that I'd give the gentleman $75 and then magically there's tons of stuff wrong with the radio. I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to this stuff. So I tend to get a little nervous when buying equipment that already has problems.
My wife has a backup Cobra 25LTD pushing out 50 watts also. I was told that the Connex 3300 could get around 75 watts just from a good peak and tune and new mosfet installed, which is noticeably better than my 40-45 on my Galaxy DX series CB. -
I would pass on the Connex...Chances are there's a reason it blew the final...PLus, No ONE is going to be able to tell the difference in your audio between a radio doing 40-45w's and one that's doing 75-80 watts...
By the way...The Connex 3300HP is rated to do 40w's on AM out of the box...It could be who ever did the P&T on the thing jacked it up too much which is why the final is fried...Southwind Thanks this. -
Thank you for your input (on both subjects) I might just offer him $40 for it. If he says no, it's no big deal I have a radio that does well already at 45 watts.
I have a noise canceling mic on that Galaxy DX 959...would an echo mic help magnify my voice more instead of the noise canceling mic? I like the echo sound, but not so much that it echos for eternity. When I hear them they sound really strong when Echo'd right. -
You need a Power Mic...And the best Power Mic on the market right now is the RF Limited Xtreme 2018...This Mic has it all...Echo controls, Noise cancelling (it has a switch to turn on the Noise Cancelling feature) You can find them on eBay for around $50 New...They come wired for 4-pin Galaxy/Cobra radios or can be wired for just about any radio.
To get a power Mic set just right, "Talk Back" comes in handy.mike5511 Thanks this. -
FWIW I've purchased Connex and their brothers Galaxy and Mirage, for $50-$75 WITHOUT a blown final transistor and in full working order. I agree with Jesse. Pass on this one. Chances are it's had the Golden Screwdriver special done to it and will possibly cost more to unscrew everything wrong inside of it.

I did pass, thank you. I offered $40 for it and he didn't even respond. When I looked at his picture the Connex didn't even have a heat sink on the back of his radio, which is about the same wattage as the radio I have now so I would have probably been have just wasting my time. A guy I know who runs a CB Shop I talk to frequently told me what to look for and I showed him what I was looking at. He told me to offer him $10 if he was lucky, so I guess I was feeling generous.

No heat sink on the rear, indicates it is an older single final Connex.
