    Hey guys,

I'm new to the whole CB scene so I figured a trucker forum would be the best place for me to inquire :). I own a 2006 mustang gt and I want to put a CB radio in it and I think I found the radio and the antenna I want but I was wondering if someone could help me out and let me know if its a good combo and what you would recommend from past experiences. I don't want to put a huge antenna on it, just to kinda keep the looks of it in check (I know this will cut down on my range but I only need a few miles anyways). I would reaaally appreciate some feedback. Thanks guys! here's the links:

That's a good radio, it'll do everything you need. I think the Love's truck stops have those on sale for $60 or so, you might check around a little.

I think you'll be really disappointed with that antenna if you want to talk more than a quarter mile. Wilson and K40 both have trunk lip mount antennas that are pretty low profile, and the coil can be taken off quickly and thrown in the trunk if you don't want it visible. I just googled and found this antenna for the same price as that cell-type antenna-

I don't know anything about it, but it has to be better. Those cell phone style antennas are notoriously poor performers. Besides, the RS website says they're out of stock.

You'll also need to get a SWR meter and learn how to use it. Search for it, there is a lot of information here and elsewhere on the internet about tuning antennas.

I agree with what Josh has said. That's a good radio but that antenna you posted is pure junk and should be avoided at all costs.

In fact your antenna is the heart and soul of the radio and will make or break you. I recommend instead you look into a Wilson 1000 mobile antenna. You can go with either a mag mount (the best IMO, if you put it dead center of the car's roof) or trunk lip mount (not as good but better than the "21 antenna you posted),

The Wilson 1000 is only 5 feet tall so I don't think that's too far out of check, but if you feel it's too tall, then Wilson also makes a Lil Wil which is 3 feet tall and is the absolute shortest you want to go on an antenna if you expect to get the "few miles" you mentioned.

That "21 antenna, if used, will not get out as mentioned, past 1/4 mile....plus you probably can't get the SWR's down on it so it'll eventually burn up the finals in your radio. Not what you want.

Oh man Turbo-T, when I read "Mustang" my brain though "convertible," that's why I was yacking about trunk mounts. Good call.

would you recommend that 3' lil wil? cuz that seems great for what i want...if it gives me like a 2-3 mile range, maybe even more, and it's got the magnetic mount, cuz i'd probly mount it in the middle of my trunk

im probly gonna go with the little wil cuz that seems like it's got the best reviews...i was also lookin today and mounting it on the trunk is gonna be near impossible to wire all the way back to the radio, so i think im gonna mount it on the roof...would the little wil still be the good for that?

The Lil Wil will work best when on the roof. Dead center of the car.
