Cb radio squelch

Let me give you the condensed version of everything you have asked, RF Gain all the way up, Squelch , turn to the right until static stops, within a mile or so you will hear them. It's not rocket science.

 

RF gain reduces noise without reducing sensitivity to long distance stations if turned down to the threshold of noise, while squelch reduces receiver sensitivity to long distance stations without reducing noise above that threshold.

 

President radios have an automatic squelch controll (ASC) that works quite well. You really want a good antenna setup for it to work, as you would anyway... CB Radio / Ham Radio - President Electronics

If you want to hear 90% of what is happening around you then these are good radios to use without the hassle of donking around with RF gain and squeltch every time you pass in and out of "noisy" areas.

IMO, this is the way to go. Or you go to the far extreme and turn RF gain all the way up and the squelch all the way down so you hear everything, and then listen to it long enough that you just don't hear the white noise anymore when your mental noise filter develops. It takes a few months...

 

This would be a good radio, it has the automatic squelch function that skellr was talking about.
