Well yes or no. I don't think I've seen a cobra 29 that's accurate when it comes to the built in SWR meter reading. I've adjusted a few going by the cobra service bulletins and I still don't trust them. I've had two 29's on our company trucks that read 1.2 for SWR, but the guys complained that they can't talk a block away. So when I used my antenna analyzer the SWR reading was over 5.1, because the antennas were bad. That's why I always recommend drivers to use an external SWR meter. Without doing the bonding precedure. It's very unlikely your antenna is around a 1.1 for SWR, even with a CB shop doing the work.
-
All right, well I’ll invest in one of those meters and have the shop do the Bonding for me
-
Thanks for the pictures, that helps a lot. I'm not sure why the first picture shows the meters needle about an s3 while the other picture shows the needle around an s30.
-
I assumed the first CB shop you went to used an external meter? They should have shown you the results of their work. If not then I wouldn't trust them again.
-
Yeah, the first shop I went to before I had an antenna put on he use the meter but he didn’t show me and then the second shop where I went and they put my antenna on. Honestly I don’t know what they did with it. They took it inside the shop. I was in the truck with the guy installing my antenna so
-
And yeah, like I said, the first picture is when it’s just normal operation I’m not using it and then the second one is when I key the mic. Are those not normal readings or something?
-
Oh okay, no that's fine, for some reason I thought both pictures were showing it in transmit mode. My mistake.Brianjr323 Thanks this.
-
Oh ok. Cool
-
Also I recommend you run the RF gain fully clockwise unless you're sitting at a truck stop while people are talking close by.
