That is the $64,000 question sir......not really would be my opinion. Compare it to buying a hunting rifle....almost all of them will function properly if cared for in the right way. But , if you want one to function for years and give you service that you can count on in a emergency , then spend some coin to start with. also just like topping a good rifle with a piece of glass ( scope) get the best you can afford....I'm all for spending more on a piece of glass for a rifle , than I spend on the rifle alone....same thing goes for your antenna set-up......the radio is only as good as the antenna //co-ax / mounting system /antenna placement you choose. I ran a Cobra 29 set-up by a fellow named Clay that had a small shop close to the Weatherford Tx. Petro...ran an Audio King antenna with an Elkin 3-tube amp....then when the 148 DX Cobra radios came along I switched to one of those. Decent radio too...

Actually the purpose for angling forward is the they wit be straight up and down when the wind is pushing the antenna back. To get optimum signal instead of lean back near cab (ground plane)

Angling them forward is quite successful for most of them, it accomplish there purpose of looking stupid and showing you have no idea of how an antenna functions.

Just like f_glights, turn them on and surely one of them will show to comment on your lighs, they work very well indeed.

I appreciate both comments, especially the f-g lights.I do not have f-ag lights and have a bit of contempt for the drivers that run them in clear weather conditions. What is the point of doing that? to blind other drivers? generally, not always i know, indicative of a driver with little experience attempting to be cool, not unlike the "catch all the gears thru a truck stop mentality" type drivers. obviously that is just my opinion.off rant and on to my serious question.

I actually do lean my 5.5" francis forward some but then i am around lots of low hanging this and that and i do it to avoid breaking the darn thing. my last one i broke at my house on a limb that i knew was there.yeah i know. but anyway, what is your suggestion regarding mounting angle of an antenna such as a 5.5" francis?

I ain't going to another antenna. i love my francis. i have 2 wilson 2000 long shaft deals in the side box. lots of noise with them when hooked up imo.

    thanks in advance PJ.
