Cobra 18 w/stock mic. Eventually worked my up to a Ranger 2970. As I was a company driver my whole driving career, employers over the years became less accommodating to ‘big radios’ in their trucks. The last few years I drove, I used a Cobra 29. Still have them all, with the exception of the 18.

My first cb radio was a 4 channel crystal bound tube radio, Johnson Viking Valant ( White Face) lots of audio, about 11 " square and maybe 16" deep. Now I run a Icom IC-7300 radio, and a tarheel antenna with a antenna tuner. While its capable of running on 27 MHz I do not recommend it, this radio is not legal there, capable but not legal. I keep and old cobra 19 for truck talking, use the ICOM for armature frequencies.

Radio Shack radio in 1990, then transitioned into: Cobras 19+ & 29 LTD Classic, then a General Lee, and back to my old LTD Classic side mic hookup.

My first radio was a borrowed uniden 23 channel old and behind the times. After a couple weeks I bought a 29 off another driver had a connex board and road king 56 mic. I still wasn’t happy. So I went with a 4400 connex it wasn’t a bad radio. I bought a used 3300HP from a guy that had a CB shop in bald knob, then he ended up at the petro in Galloway went by Highway. That thing would blow smoke. Clean and clear. Ran it forever. Finally replaced it with another 3300HP from channel 5 in west Memphis that one was ####. I met a guy on an exit and picked up a General Lee that I ran till I bought this Stryker 655. I really think I like the General Lee a little better. Too much clutter on the front of the Stryker.

    Valiant?

What receiver did you use with it?

Why the emphasis on the 7300? I mean it is just a radio, lol.

Still wonder about the Valiant, what did you use for a receiver?

I know a lot of people used Hallicrafters, even S40 types. Had a friend who had a homebrew with his ranger and when he traded up, he was so happy to have the pair, they looked alike, he bought the parts for the receiver case from Johnson.

I bought an SX-28 last year that is on the bench, it was paired with a valiant, I have all the paperwork for both. The son of the owner (SK) got rid of the Valiant the old fashioned way a few days before I spotted the 28, in the garbage.

This was like back in the 70's for me, I do however member seeing God a few times working on the White Face, learned that they had chassis that were not grounded, but just the oppsite, they were the half of the circuit. About 1979 I purchased a isolator for the ac side of life, but man it woulf sound like a gun going off sometimes if you got something wrong, did get good at changing Cap's and wire wound resistors.. Ran a Starduster for an omni and a super scanner for a directional, seemed to work back in the day. Could not have been living half way up the side of the Burbank Hills off Kenneth Road

trying to decide on what format of radio to buy between D Star or DMR, kind of looks like Dstar may work better in the truck or runnning southwest states
