222 CB shop just outside reading pa. on Rt222. this guy, peaked and tuned a radio for me, and it didnt get out more than a tenth of a mile. he fixed it and blamed it on his worker. then i got a cobra 29, stopped working in about 3 weeks, he said the main board was bad. so gave me a new one, this one went bad in about five weeks. ( both had talk back, echo and mod kits installed). finally i paid the difference, and got a 29lx which i didnt let him touch, never had any problems with that one. but decided to get a Stryker 497, went to R&R in Wilmington Delaware, and guess what... .it works great

I avoid Strykers CB shop in OKC on Morgan Road across from the Blue Beacon like the plague. I didn't listen to all the BS on the radio about him but know I wished I did. Never been to a puppy mill/CB shop it stinks in the place for one thing and I had him peak, tune and had a connex board put in my Grant XL. He put in some cheap board and all I wanted was the use of the talk back and it sucks couldn't hear it at all or even the echo reverb part sucked and I don't even use the echo part. Also I was having them install a stryker antenna and new coax ran like factory at the same time. I took the radio back in and complained and he told me that was a connex board and their was nothing wrong with it. After telling him he was full of #### and I wanted it fixed right he told me to leave or he was calling the cops. I could see this was going nowhere so I told him paybacks were a ##### and left. I took it to another shop and had them remove the board and was informed it was not a connex board some cheap imitation.

Few months later I was having problems with my radio (Northstar DX 330HML) and then it started smoking and burned the finals in it. The reason was the bad sodering job on the end of the coax that connects to the back of my CB, the connection was tight when I checked it but the wire was loose and came un done. The guy talks crap to his customers and a loud mouth on the radio, says he is defending his reputation and his shop. Well if he would just shut up those people would quit harassing him but he plays his commercials over the CB every minute or so and then wants to argue with everyone. The guy is just a loser with a bad CB shop.

Far as the Stryker antenna I couldn't tell a difference from my Wilson 2000 or a Francis antenna I used in the past so I just put my Wilson 2000 back on after a thief decided he needed it more then I did.

Lesson learned and money spent on foolish crap.

Darn, I just bought a radio on-line. Had I known before I probably would have taken one of them off your hands.

Clay Center, not too far from me. You familiar with a guy named R___ Withee? Worked with him while at Smoky Hill.. If you run across him tell him Ron says Hi.. :biggrin_25520:

One place that i will never go to again is the CB shop at the T/A in Brookville PA exit 78 on I-80. That guy is a complete idiot who shouldn't be allowed to work on a child's toy let alone anything of value.

I agree 100%...9 times out of ten it's not the radio that is the problem, but either the way it's hooked up or the antenna...I have seen guys complain that they couldn't get out or hear more than a few miles, and wanting to know what radio to get that would be better than what they have...Then I look at their antenna, and it's some open coiled thing that is all bent out of shape and the stinger has part of it broke off at the top...

Pictures are worth a 1000 words...
To prove what I'm talking about, here is a picture of a guys antenna, that was telling me just this...He was wondering what I was using because he could hear me all across the city, but he couldn't talk more than a mile, and both of us are using the same radio...a Cobra 29.

His antenna was (or use to be) a open coiled antenna that the coil had broke, and he took off, then installed part of a old slinky to use as the new coil, and had it mounted using hose clamps...The coax is just stuck into the bottom of the antenna mount, if you pull on it, it comes out!

...and he wonders why he can't get-out...
