It might be worth the trip......there's a shop at the Petro in Effingham, Effingham Radio Repair I believe is the name. He has a eBay store under the same name. I bought a Cobra 29LX and he tuned it really nice. It talks really good.

I personally won't use the shop in Effingham. There is no doubt that he does good work. And has now opened up a second shop at the flying j. But he is a huge db. I stood in his shop for over 45 minutes while he was on the phone and he never even acknowledged that I was there. Then when he was done he acted like my being there was a inconvenience. Like I said if you ask me someone like that doesn't deserve your money.

I go see the Diesel Doctor in Mt. Vernon. Exit 95 off I 57 at the Hucks Flying J. He did a good job on my set up and is reasonably priced.

In regards to the post Chip is the employee of Ranger Communications and is now located in California. He left Illinois as he was forced out by the Truckstops owner when they cut the power to the building and locked him out. The current people operating the shop have nothing to do with the origional CNC Electronics. You can contact him here Deleted. He does the repair for alot of Shops in the country along with Don in Erie they are the two best in the industry as they are both contracted by the Manufactures.

There are plenty of radio butchers up in that area to choose from, but I wouldn't waste my time with any of them.
