Just imagine what a person could get from a high-powered radio and a good antenna setup lol.
bored silly, MN_Maddog, Flacrkr and 2 others Thank this. -
Has anyone gotten a radio for him? Are they good?
-
Leave the inside of the radio alone. Most CB shops spread coils and snip limiters to make the Dosy meter lie to you.
At best have the radio aligned to ensure your whole signal goes out on one channel, not 10. That alone will make a difference.
And yes antenna. Biggest you can go. Someone mentioned Frances....I disagree unless they make an 8 ft whip with little load coil. Speaking of load coil, less is better. That's why I like Sirio 5000 antennas. The whip is 6 ft tall and there's only 3 ft of load coil inside. A 4 ft stick by comparison is 5 ft of load coil. That's over half the antenna! A true CB antenna is 9 ft long presuming we are talking 1/4 wave length.
Don't forget low swr and don't use lossy coax aka cheap coax that lets your signal bleed into everything. LMR-240 if you can, if not RG8X.
Height is might. Less load coil and more whip is good. Good coax. And low swr of 1.5:1.
Then you can make even a Cobra 19 talk with ease. :Yes:rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
What is your key to a good antenna set up?
-
it all depends on the vehicle.
there's no such thing as one antenna that works great on all vehicles -
So for my 4wheeler, is my Wilson 1000 mag mount on the roof among the best options?
-
What kind of 4wheeler?
