First of all Happy New Year! Any trucker without a CB is asking for it. When you break the channel we don't want to hear your lives story. N. Bound truck How does it look back there. Cops have radios too.
-
I suggest if you allow a shipper or receiver to require you to listen to your CB for dock assignments, for more than a few minutes....you should be logging that time as 'on duty not driving'.
Even when I had one in the truck I told them I didn't have one. They could call me on my cell phone, or send the yard jockey to my truck...or if I had to I would check back with them in the office. -
just do what i do...............laugh at the ones who are sitting in traffic due to a wreck or something. they always come on the radio after they stop and ask whats going on........why are we stopped....can i get around the backup? i hammer them relentlessly over the radio. i say driver, if you had your radio on and your head out of your rear end, you would have known what is happening. now you get to sit and run out of hours with your EOBR hahahaha
Logan76 Thanks this. -
Got a heads up a couple weeks ago that one of my trl tires was coming apart over the cb. Couldn't see it in the mirrors. I'll keep mine on thanks.
And I always return the favor if someone has an equipment problem. -
I had a nice talk with a couple of milk haulers last night on the ohio pike, lots of guys talking and being decent last night the whole way across from chicago...it was refreshing to hear alot of chatter on the radio and none of it being "where all dem gurlz at?"...

I think if his trailer was worn/old/neglected/abused enough to break in half, not having his radio on should be the least of everyones worries...Just sayin'

I also think, FOR ME, just for me, I take the responsibility to protect others when I can. I think it is irresponsible to not prevent accidents & people getting hurt. my actual experience... when I heard on the c.b. that the left lane around a curve had a hywy patrol attending to a car that was stalled in the left lane, I got in the right. about 1/4 mile here comes a crotch rocket motor cycle with a female passenger doing about 65-70 m.p.h. I rolled down my dr side window & motioned vigorously waved my arm signaling to slow down. they did. I saw no way of them avoiding a serious wreck if I had not warned them. after they stopped, they pulled off the road, both got off the bike, took off their helmets & sat on the ground with their heads bowed. I think they realized how close they came to having their heads bowed before someone other than the traffic crowd. about 5 more times in my 13 years have I done this. some not as close call as others. once in the rain, same thing, with a 4 wheeler. I know some say it is not their responsibility to warn everyone. I just think different. warning of bear, weather, what have you, is different than preventing a potential death.
Lady K and nctrucker1977 Thank this. -
I love and use the CB frequently. One of my favorite uses is in a traffic jam due to a lane closure (like a wreck). You can find out what lane to get in miles before you get there. The only time I shut mine off is when the local idiots are being obnoxious.
