I have a cobra 29 ltd peaked and tuned its the better of that model cant remember where it was made.I switch it back and forth from my car to my suv it has a cheap antenna.I was wanting to know the best magnet mount antenna to get? What do i need to do to get rid of the static on the radio its killing me if i squelch it to far then i get nothing but silence. Is there a better radio on there that will get rid of the static and is clear and silent when no one is talking?I was thinking about one of this radio Ranger RG66,and maybe this amp Palomar 450 linear amplifier

Get the radio tuned and aligned, that will help the receive out, and the best magnet mount antenna is the Wilson 1000 or 5000.

If the static goes away when you pull the antenna you need to start with the antenna.

I NO NOT BELEVE IN TUNEING A CB RADIO !

If a cb radio is that bad it needs to go to the FACTORY ...

The best magnet mount to get would be the Wilson 1000.

Unfortunately, static is the nature of the beast on an AM CB radio. There's not much of a way of getting rid of it. Making sure the radio, antenna and the entire vehicle is grounded can and does help but you'll never be able to eliminate all of the static. And it gets even worse if you're near something that causes interference such as a fluorescent lamp or an electric motor.

There's no CB that I know of that is quiet when no one is talking and with the squelch all the way counterclockwise. That is why there's a squelch knob.

When you squelch it, you just set the threshold of when the static can break thru. If you squelch it say 3/4 of the way, only people within a few miles of you will get thru unless someone is running power. Usually they're clear as a bell. That's how I usually run mine.

I 100% agree with the other posts on the static and teh Wilson 1000. If you are running no power or even the Palomar you are thinking about getting will be perfect. As for getting a 10 meter radio you better go get your Ham ticket first. As those 10 meter radios are illegal for the average joe to opperate. Side band is just a differnt part of the same frequency that is all modulation. If the person you are trying to talk to is not on Side band he will be unable to understand you and vice versa.

I know that is not the technical way to describe SSB but for an avg. guy that is the easiest way to understand it.

You will have just as much static on 10 meters. Sideband is just a different mode of operation on AM and you will get static there too.

An amp would help you get out further but will do nothing for the static blues. In fact it may even make it worse. Also an amp will not do anything for your receive.

Also what has been said about 10 meters is true...to operate on 10 meters requires a ham ticket; if found operating on 10 meters without a ticket you could be looking at some heavy fines.

If I may ask how much static are you getting? Is it louder with the engine running as opposed to it being off? Where does the needle on the radio fall when you get the most amount of static?

Static is a wide wide wide word if it is just white noise as we call it its in the radio noise floor so that is due to the filtering in the radio. first you need to find out what it is really. if its ambient Freq noise its going to be there sorry but CB has gotten so dirty lately due to so many people on the band it is hard to get rid of. there is no cure for static. If its other noise like whine or birdies it can be fixed once you find it you start by disconecting the antenna and see if it goes away if it does. Its comeing from there if you have a mag mount like you say move it around some and see if it changes if it doesn't change its freq noise you will have to live with it. After all your not dealing with FM where you can squelch out the noise and still have signal.
