Cheaper the better so you dont have to worry about people breaking in for it.

 

If you're running an off-the-shelf unit, you have 4 watts at the transmitter output. Doesn't matter if you paid $40 or $400. The only way you have "more power" is if you have an RF amplifier hooked on the output... and are running an illegal unit.

 

I don't think he was talking about type accepted cb radios. More like "hi-power" illegal radios.

 

And this is a thread started by a newb in the "New Drivers" folder. All you really need is a cheap off-the-shelf CB that transmits at the maximum LEGAL power of 4 watts - like every off-the-shelf CB does. If it's a bit weak or scratchy, you might need to have a CB tech "peak it out," but you can't tell that until you've tried it. That's all you need to get back and forth to the receiving and shipping office.

All the rest of it is just seeing how much money you can throw down the CB rat-hole.

 

, that said, in 12 yrs I've gone through 6 cb's, in my old truck the last one died in '07 and became a paperweight after that. Currently, I have one, had it peaked and tuned, and i hardly ever turn it on. About the only time I turn it on is when the weather is bad.

 

I would recommend a new driver to have one.
That said I have been driving slip seat daycabs the last two of three years and haven't used one and have not missed it but I don't go to a lot of new places.
