I thought there was a law put in a few years ago.
That the insurance company had to notify the
DMV as soon as your insurance was cancelled.

And the person had 30 days to turn their tags in,
Or their license would be suspended.
I know it's like this in some states.

Your CDL might already be screwed.

    You ever heard of SR-22.
    I would look that up.
That's the special high dollar insurance you
Have to carry when you get busted for driving
    With no insurance.

It's like twice the rate of full coverage
    No matter what your driving.

If you couldn't afford your last insurance policy,
You got no chance with that.
I think you have to have it for 2 years.

I"m paying $1250 per year financed.

The only one lower would be progressive but they give me crap because my son and his wife live with me. Doesn't matter that they own their own cars and have their own insurance.

Everyone else is around $2200 per year.

Further proof that this company is ran by a bunch of communists. Hell, their name itself is a hint.

Christ there are some wrong answers in here.

No matter what, the truck made an illegal maneuver and hit him. That driver and company are 100% at fault for the wreck.

OP stop with the "Im dummy, I was wrong, etc" stuff. 10's of thousands of people drive with no insurance or no dl every day. Does it make it right? No. But its the world we live in now. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do to survive.

You need to contact their insurance company and politely tell them how they're going to handle this so that you don't have to get an attorney involved.

No vehicle to transport you to your job can constitute as a hardship. How are they gonna handle that? What if you have to take time off work because of this? How do they plan to handle that?

What that other driver did was ##### stupid and could have ended MUCH worse for you. Or how about if he did that in front of someone with kids in the vehicle and they got hurt? This isnt the 1st time that driver pulled that bone headed stunt I'd bet.

Op you did a dumb thing. Do better next time. But in the present worry about taking care of yourself and being made whole on your loss.

i was told many, many years ago, when i wanted to buy a new vette....the city you live in, has a direct bearing on how much you pay.

the insurance guy told me back then, if i was to live about 30 miles south of that last place.??

the rates would be about 1/3rd cheaper...

so i bought a chevy, or ford, instead..too far back to recall what i bought..

but when it comes to me paying money, THAT i tend to remember....

although some of what you say i can agree with, i believe that hiring an attorney is best. yes, they do take up to a 3rd of the settlement, but insurance companies can screw with him to no end, as THEY HAVE the resources to do so, and he could just give up. there is only x amount of time to contact an attorney to preserve your rights.

also, the attorney can find other things that can get him more money.

those accident/injury attorneys will not be push overs, nor will not back down and give up.

You're absolutely right, but I believe in giving everyone a chance, insurance co's included. If they handle the claim and made him whole then great.

If they try to screw him around then just call an attorney and get them to handle it.
