When did they start this? My daughter tested in my T 800 with an auto shift, but has no such restriction on her license?
Cdl A and CDL C, how to remove automatic restriction?

Been a few years now.

Actually it’s been more than a few years but until a few years ago some states just ignored the restriction and just didn’t use it. I still have a 1996 FMCSR manual and it’s in there. I know here in MS they knew of it and just ignored it and wouldn’t use it.

I don't know how long it's been. Didn't even know about it till it started popping up on this forum. About the time I came off the road for local work 3 years ago. Is when I started hearing about it on this forum.

Best bet is to find a guy with a old Mack truck with a 20 foot trailer, I did my test on that, I think it was a 7 speed tranny.
As long as it’s a manual with a 5th wheel trailer type doesn’t matter and qty of gears either. I also didn’t have to double pump to shift either. -
383.95, which is where the manual restriction is specified was last updated on May 9, 2011. So it's been at least 8 years.
Now that doesn't mean the states actually followed that regulation. I believe it was Georgia that had to be dragged to court to force them to actually put the restriction on the license. -
I got my class A CDL in 2015. Took the test in an auto. No restriction. That is the only time I have ever driven an auto. Since I got my license I have driven an 8LL, a ten speed, and currently have an 18 speed.

You got lucky. That was the year I believe the new restrictions went into effect.

CDL A HOLDER WITH AUTO RESTRICTION. How do I go about practicing with a manual to get it removed.
