I rented a truck with some 1 on 1 when I finally went for my license. I went through 99% of the Swift school prior to that.

I got 4 hours on Saturday with the instructor/owner. I already had pretrip/in cab/ air brakes down. We did about a 30
minute drive. Then on Sunday he met me for about 3 hours. Made me do a practice test, and then let me spend as much time as I wanted working on skills. I think drove that truck (day cab with a pup) in the yard for about 7 hours. Just taking a 15 minute break every 45 min. Then he met me at the DMV at 8:30am Monday morning. By 11:00am I was headed home with my CDL. I learned more in that 7 hours then I did in school.

Yeah I'm going to get my permit soon but won't go to school until the Spring. Don't want to shake up things until after the holidays. I'll be doing the 1 week course. Got the CDL book from the DMV, same old stuff I remember. Every school I've reached out to says I'd have the option to train on a manual or automatic. I initially learned on manual so we'll give it another whirl. I was lucky in that shifting came easy to me. One of the things I've noticed for the schools I've called they also do the testing. No need to go to the DMV.

To what someone said...yeah when I got out of the school I had pretty much no clue how to actually drive the truck. They teach just enough to pass the test which is fine.

    Thanks for all the replies.
