That does not compute. Class A is actually combination vehicles. Meaning trailers. You can have a B and nothing for pulling a combination of any kind. Ie no trailers. But when you get big and heavy enough on a trailer it has to be a A license. No ifs buts or maybes.
CDL A w restriction of tractors, what school or company is best?

Now I see it.
States are really sneaky about that. Whatever you bring to test is what you are going to get. Restrictions where possible.Chinatown Thanks this. -
No problem. Just make sure if you do find one that it's a manual transmission, that way he doesn't have an automatic restriction on his cdl.

Intuitively, that makes sense, but it's not that simple. Let's say he worked for a pool installer, and he drove a 10 wheel dump truck that towed a skip loader on a 2 axle, dual wheeled, pintle hook flatbed. That certainly is CDL A, but not tractor trailer. I guess that they issue an "O" restriction because he didnt test in a tractor trailerx1Heavy Thanks this.

He doesn't have cdl /a he have class b cdl No class a cdl he must do the road test and pass it if he gets pulled over in a tractor with is currant cdl b it will not be a good day for him

All your husband needs to do is this if he can pass the road test get a friend that have is cdl-a rent a tractor from let say Ryder and let him drive with the friend if he got it he can pass the road but he must have the tractor and trailer to do the road test he must also use at least a 10 speed to the the road test you can also use a pup to do the road test yes a pup I use one back in 91 in Florida and yes most of them will want you to have experience are take a refreshers class with a trainertreelife Thanks this.

He can take a tractor no trailer in cdl B. It is WISE NOT to do so.
CDL A covers everything, that is what you really want. You cannot get it without testing with a permit CDL A with a licensed CDL A driver and a full combination vehicle of at least 33,000 pounds gvw up to 80,000 pounds gvwr. airbrakes, manual transmission etc etc etc.
If you already got a cdlB, then upgrading to CDL A will require what I listed in the previous paragraph, in order.treelife Thanks this.
