If you have already CDL from another school( no experience),how log will be your training before start driving with the trainer? I live in NJ. They will send me to IOWA or South Carolina?

We don't train. We have what is called Orientation. Essentially a week of weeding out the worst of the litter (Send them back home) and keeping the rest with a trainer for weeks or months.

If you own a CDL A etc you are good to go. In my time they did not bother with trainers, hand me the key and load and off I go then. Running late get going.

TMC DOES in fact train (not sure where the above information comes from about TMC, not training). You will be in a 2-week orientation, and then up to 5-weeks w/ a trainer OTR out of Des Moines.

After orientation and before OTR, maybe I can take two weeks to quit my job or I have to jump with the trainer immediately.....I'm worried that if I fail the orientation,I will be unemployed . Impossible for me ,even for one day...

Found a review on glassdoor.com regarding TMC, anyone care to comment ? Thanks!

I worked at TMC Transportation full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I loved their orientation, it was well thought out, but I'm sure all the mega truck company's orientations are as well. Their training is top notch at TMC and the trucks are pretty dependable, but, far too much CHROME. Trucks wind up looking cheesy. Tarp pay is highest in industry, at $40 per large (8ft) tarp, and $30 per small (6ft). I had a great fleet manager that seemed to care about my home time and pay, but...

    Cons

They push the percentage pay system onto new drivers, knowing they'll fall for the bait, and I did. Until you drive for them long enough, you'll assume that percent is better than cent per mile, when in fact it isn't, UNLESS you were able to see the bills yourself and verify actual gross load pay. They don't tell you the real load pay, you're only allowed to see what shows up on your Qualcomm unit and are forced to...

    Advice to Management

Pay your drivers a guaranteed weekly minimum of at least $1000, compensate drivers who aren't able to get home every weekend with a cash supplement of at least $400, and drop the ESOP nonsense, because you know 80% of your drivers aren't going to stay for 6+ years to get to use it.

You will make $500/wk tax-free during your 3 weeks of Orientation. And $500/wk (w/ taxes taken out) during your 5 weeks of OTR training.
