and don't the doctors also have to accept the "payment menu" the insurance companies say, or not be a part of that network. of course, a doctor can bill the patient for the balance just as easily.

And charge they do. My first DOT physical before I started CDL school in 1995 cost me $220 from my Doctor.

I don't think they had ever done a DOT physical before mine so just went through everything that needed to be checked and charged me individually for each test.

20 years hasn't diminished the pain one bit. It especially didn't help when just the following week the instructor in school advised the class to shop around and don't pay more than $30.

Serves me right for trying to be as prepared as possible rather than wait until the last minute like everyone else did.

Yes I kept quiet about how much mine cost me.

    Dr. Richard Rodgers Thanks this.

My last one cost $150. My company wanted me to go to there dr but they don't pay for the physicals. I found a place in Norman ok that only charges $85 so I told them I was going there. Then they offered to pay the difference for me to go to their dr cause it was more convenient for them.

Bear in mind this was over 20 years ago long before there were FMCSA registered examiners. Basically any doctor or walk in clinic could do the exam. The cheap ones just did the very basics and you were in there less than 10 minutes.

That $30 basically bought you a signature on the form not a proper examination.
