Going thru the unemployment office, hubby and I got full grants to "retrain" into truck driving school. Check the hazmat requirements. If you can pass those, you should be able to get a trucking job. It depends on what flavor of trucking you want too... otr, local, regional... regular hometime, or never home. Do you want drop and hook, or are you interested on doing manual labor like deliveries, strapping and tarping, or unloading your reefer? There's a flavor for every taste. The hard part I think is finding a good company that hires beginners, rather than your record.

I have a friend in California that got his CDL. The first thing he did was pass every written test they had to prove he was smart. He also got his Hazmat. It's just a simple TSA background check, and if you don't have any violent crimes you can pass it. Having one is always good, whether you need it or not. Proves you have been checked. Also depends on your felony. If it is drugs that could be a real problem.

Like tankers, not everyone wants to drive or do the work it takes for a flatbed. So I would assume they are more lenient on their hiring practices. Dry van would be a different story.

I ran into a guy who told me he did 20 years because he "had a really bad temper". If he can get hired, you can get hired, unless you raped someone or are a kiddie diddler. You won't be going to Canada, though.

That's not an absolute. In fact, I know of some drivers that routinely go into Canada that have criminal records. Further some crimes that are not considered felonies in the US are considered felonies in Canada and can get you blocked from entry. The one that gets people the most are DUIs.

No, if you have a history of violent criminal acts and have spent half your life locked up most likely you are never going to get legal entry into Canada. The people that I know who enter Canada have either been granted Deemed Rehab or used other means.

That first link is to an Offical Canada website.

I will say this in regard to the OP. With almost everything to do with their issue, time is what fixes a lot of the primary problems with driving.

I’m also a felon looking @ getting into the trucking industry.I just recently had an interview with Roehl. To see if I can get into there driver training program been 2 days haven’t heard a decision.Would like to know what are options for guys with records looking to change there life and have a career in this industry.I live in Massachusetts and trucking school is really not an option for me.I applied to one and was very disappointed in the facility. Please steer me to a career on the open road

Apply to other companies with their own cdl schools.
Do the applications honestly, but don't reveal information that isn't asked for. The companies will find out anyway, but you should just focus on the question on the applications.
