To play "devil's advocate"
I can see that there are a small number of people in the USA who have grown up around trucks and "trailering" for most of their life. Perhaps on a farm/ranch or in a family business. These guys have more proficiency skills then most "2 year local P&D veterans". This ad seems to be from somewhere in eastern Missouri (Not St. Louis) so it's not like they're surround by "city mice".
And let's be honest, todays trucks are not that complicated to "master" a decent pre-trip inspection exam. We're not talking about Airbus A380's here.NavigatorWife, Badmon, Straight Stacks and 1 other person Thank this. -

I've always said driving is one of those things some people just "get", others "get" it in time with close mentorship. Others just don't and never will "get" it.NavigatorWife and STexan Thank this. -

Those 1 day CDL courses are booked up with railroad workers, agricultural workers, dump truck drivers, 1 ton dually drivers licensed over 26,000 ect. Lots of other jobs require a license with air brakes.
My neighbor a railroad worker was on a 2 month waiting list to test at one of those places (it was almost exclusively booked with railroad workers) because they get a dollar an hour raise and the railroad pays for the testing.
Not sure anyone would be able to take that course then hire on with a company and hit the road.NavigatorWife Thanks this.
