You don't transfer licenses into CA. You start from scratch and have to take the written and road test all over along with form DL959 which is a 10 year history check so they can see where you lived and hold other licenses.
If you are going to live in CA train and keep your license in that state. You can work for a company in another state and still live in CA. Just because you work out of state doesn't mean you have to live there.
It would be stupid to train for your CDL outside CA because of the stipulations. If you plan on living in NV then adios CA, don't look back and get your NV CDL. But you must surrender your CA DL when you do so. Anytime you physically move across state lines you must surrender your old license. That's the reason for all these background checks we go through so you don't possess more than one CDL.
Back in the old days a drunk CDL driver would lose his license. No problem, he could go to another state and get another one. Now we have CDLIS, they will find you and cut your cahonas off!pattyj, superpet39 and mje Thank this. -
Wow, CondoCruiser, thanks for the info. I didn't know they'd tightened it up like that. Yikes!

It's the same as transfering any license when you move to a different state. Just did it last year.

I didn't before I joined the forum. If you hang out here long enough you learn a lot of stuff. There's a wealth of information for young and old.
I can't remember where I left my wallet but I can remember this stuff!pattyj Thanks this. -

Probably because it costs more in fees. Notice the two states doing it, money grab. NY, and MA probably follow next.
