CDL Loans is it as illegal as it seems?

I was introduced to the concept of CDL loans wherein a driver not currently using a 70 hour clock due to downtime can "loan" his CDL to a carrier in need of hours.

Apparently this feature is supported by the Qualcomm's software allowing credentials to be updated for a live driver code and stored in a drop down menu for later use.

I assumed impersonating another driver by using fraudulent credentials would be illegal but the software support makes me think there may be exemption cases I am unaware of.

Is this the result of a computer programmer not understanding CDL laws or some hidden lifehack?

It sounds like rules for team driving. But just use team mode if you are allowed i guess. Or i am wrong. Ask the next State trooper you see.

You'll find out when they have an accident, or get checked on the wrong creds..
Crap rolls downhill. Guess who's at the bottom if they sold that info ?

    Are you even a driver?

    Where did you hear this?

If you were told by a company, tell us who the company is. Be specific.

If you saw this on a Qaulcomm, then tell us the model and firmware version.

    Oldironfan Thanks this.

Sounds very shady. You do know the reason we have these driving limits right? It’s apparently to curve fatigued driving. Even though it doesn’t do it’s job well it still a regulation to combat fatigue. If a driver has used his hours then the law considers him not fit to drive until he has some downtime. Lending your cdl to give him more hours doesn’t magically remove fatigue. So guess what? When you lend him your cdl and he crashes and they find out he was out of hours but was using your credentials on that elog guess who’s going to be in DEEP ####. You, him, and the company. The company has money for good lawyers to give them a break or a good plea. But you and him? I hope you like mystery meat.

Currently a driver for CR England.

    Atlanta, GA

KLLM driver, I was on my 30 in the QT lounge and he was extolling the virtues of his operator lease program.

This was his response to my suggestion that leases almost mandate team driving to turn a profit. He showed me on the Qualcomm's back end over his tablet and explained every CDL that left over ELDs is a potential loan. It seemed illegal but I learned never to question advice from strangers until I am far away from them.

I think it was a Samsung tablet not sure of his ELD stuff, I had two slices of pizza so didn't get the tour.

He might be confusing this with carbon credits. Where as long as I pay someone I can pollute all I want. Lol
