Most of them actually. The "auto only" restriction appears to be something that is only enforced in a very, VERY, few situations. With no rhyme or reason

scottied67 and GasHauler Thank this.

We have literally countless drivers we've sent to test in autos. We keep waiting for one of them to come back with this mythical restriction. Hasn't happened yet

Like I said, I bet that unless the schools report it as auto only, it doesn't get put on there, and I bet they have a deal worked out.

My employer requires their mechanics to all have Class As within six months of hire (I already had mine coming here, as I'd been a driver for 10 years prior to changing careers), and the training and testing for it is done in-house.. I'll try to take a look at some of the licenses of our newer mechanics to see if they have it or not, as the entire fleet (save for a single 1989 International medium duty truck) is auto, including the T/Ts, which either have the Allison auto or are Macks with the M-Drive. I think we're supposed to have it here in Colorado, and I know I've heard a couple of our techs mention something about autos being checked off on the paperwork by the tester.

I took my test at the DPS office in Texas last year in an auto and got no restriction. My two trucks I have now my Pete and my dump truck are both manuals. I know it says somewhere in the book there is an auto restriction but for some reason they don't put it on the license.

What happened to the CDL's of all those drivers that got caught up in the in house testing at Swift's school that got decertified? IIRC they had to run the full gamut to get their CDL's again.
This situation, with a CDL school browbeating their students to only train and test in an auto, then magically getting licenses issued without any restrictions smells like a tuna boat back from a month of fishing with a broken cooler.
Give it a few months before we see the headlines.GasHauler Thanks this. -
While I don't disagree with what you are saying I didn't go to a school. I went up to the DPS office and took the driving test in an auto and got a full unrestricted license.
