I don't know that one but he might call his police friend and have him waiting for you when you get back to the testing site with a ticket and your failure notice.

When I did my test last year, we arrived at an intersection. Left turn lane and a right turn lane, no straight. It was a little tighter than 90 degrees for the right turn with pedestrians waiting at the corner near me. I had stopped the truck and was slightly in the left turn lane. The government test guy asked me why I was like that. I answered that the turn was tighter than 90 and I wanted to be sure that I was safe with the pedestrians there. He said to me that’s a good decision, but I am still taking points off for being over the lane line. I passed with room to spare. But I was still a little bit choked about that

Do not look for things that happen in the "real world".. the entire CDL skills tests are designed to show control of the vehicle in general. They are designed to make the task "doable" and at the same time gradable and timely. When you get out in the world, it doesn't matter now long any maneuver takes. The CDL examiners do not have all the time in the world for these tests nor can they wait for someone who doesn't have the needed basic skills to complete these maneuvers

I have some memory of taking the test. I believe it's a bit different, but not too much nowadays. You get 21 points for skills and another 21 for the road test. I remember struggling to learn to straight line back using mostly my driver's side mirror. The more I relied on the passenger side the easier it got. The alley dock test where you had to stop within 2 feet of the line (there were cones at the beginning and end) worried me but while practicing I noticed a black tar ribbon that I was able to rely on as a marker when I looked down from my driver's seat. When it was even with my mirror I knew I was good. The curve where you had to come as close as possible, I stayed about a foot from the cone. I lost a point intentionally because getting too cute and hitting the cone was auto fail. I think that was the only point I lost on skills.
On the road test, there was a bit of a hairpin right turn . I intentionally went extra wide and crossed the lane line, costing me a point. Once again, didn't care because hitting that curb was 21 points, auto fail. Almost everyone who failed the road test got caught by that curb.
Just figure out how to pass the test, even if you use gimmicks like I did. You're not really able to drive yet anyways, but you'll have your license. A couple months on the road and you'll really get the hang of it. The test just gets you Parking Lot Certified. heheh

    Congratulations!!! :headbang: :hello1: :occasion6: :occasion7: :occasion9: :occasion5:

Now comes the hard part -- do you have a CDL job, already?

What carriers (if any) visited your CDL class?

Did you like any of them?

    If not -- why not?
