Not everyone qualifies for state grants
Your state, Georgia, pays for CDL school through the Hope Grant, using lottery proceeds money to pay for it, but not everyone qualifies either. Sometimes it's just better to not deal with the headaches and tons of paperwork that grants, WIA, or other programs require and just attend a trucking company school and be done with it. Goodwill Industries also pays for CDL school; free to the student, if funding is available. Many California and North Carolina students get started through Goodwill Industries. Seems those 2 states funding hold up pretty well most of the year.
    That's personal choice though.

I looked into it here in MA and there are a ton of hoops to jump through. I went to an info seminar and found a laundry list of requisites that i could not pass.

My opinion, and that is the only thing I am an expert on, is that company paid training is a good way to go and is what I am looking at.

    Thanks for the info Chinatown!!

Earl Henderson Trucking has one of the better deals around for trucking company CDL school. This company also has a guaranteed minimum weekly pay.

I wish I'd have known about the grants before I went to school. In Indiana it's all handled through WorkOne. Through talking to some people in the program there are some hoops and aptitude tests to jump through but it's all paid for and the funding is there.

If moving to MS is an option: Northwest Mississippi Community College, 8 week course, $110/semester hour-in state, $210, out of state. 8 semester hour course. So only $880 for MS resident, $1680 for non-resident. And class is limited to 5-6 people. http://www.northwestms.edu/index.php/?page_id=1424
