Does TMC have APUs on their trucks? I did my first 3 years OTR in trucks before APUs were available. Luckily my companies allowed idling, they just discouraged it. I would never work for a trucking company again if I wasn't either allowed to idle at my discretion or had an APU to provide electricity and air conditioning. Good luck sleeping in 85 F weather in a crappy part of the country, would you like some fresh air or to wake up with a crook in your truck?

 

Look into Maverick if you want some solid FB experience and training. Check out Youtube for Maverick, two drivers I followed their Channel. Not sure If giving out their channels is appropriate, Though they are easy to find on youtube. One is a retired teacher, he recently had to leave and do van. The other fella, retired Air Force, I think 2014 he started training...still running for them. You'll learn alot from those two guys about Maverick. Not sure you'll get out to Cali though...but you'll get solidly trained in flatbedding.... I did.
It's not just about CPM, look at accessory pay as well. CPM doesn't mean a thing if your wheels are stopped.

I got my CDL back in 1988...it wasn't called a cdl back than, I've done dry van OTR, line haul, local P/D, and line haul wiggle wagon doubles. 15 years total. A drunk driver ended my driver days for some time....at 53 I got the itch to try, had to start from scratch. I was a newbie all over again. Things had really changed. Some better, some worse. God I love GPS and these new trucks! I drove a COE 9spd 300 HP for my first 18 months back than....19 cents a mile. OH, did I mention Spring ride.
My truck is a palace compared to those days.

Maverick has a school reimbursement plan, like many I Suppose. Though They trained me for my new CDL from scratch. I had to give them a year....but I picked carefully, as carefully as one can, Not disappointed.
You can stay out as long as you want. You are in their hiring zone (Western PA?).
Your trainer NEVER hits the bunk while truck is moving. So you are gonna learn, not be a mule.
You want the OTR division, pay is .51 to .55 plus bonus up to 6cpm I think??.... and IT IS achievable! If I can avg .05 bonus, I'm sure anybody can!
From date I hit orientation...one week Paid, than 4 weeks driver cdl training, not paid for me , than road PAID, than FB school PAID, etc... 365 days later, I'd grossed $52400 and some change....on regional board. But I had my past 15 years experience to draw from...and GPS! LMAO
So far this year..... on Target for 60k.... I'm almost 55 now, I probably move a bit slower than you, plus there is a pay difference between regional and OTR. And I do go home regularly.... so you being out for stretches....you do better.

But, check out those fellas on youtube...There is also another fella from Maverick, first year I think, I believe the retired school teacher was his trainer ( though not 100% certain )

Being specialized is where the solid money is.... while toilet paper is important, it's cheap freight.
You start hauling HIGH VALUE, whether in a Box, a Tank, an RGN that is where your big paychecks come from. But you need SOLID experience and SOLID training.

Regarding Maverick. What's the deal with them lately? If I was in the eastern US, I'd see several trucks every day. Now, the past few months running back and forth across the nation, I can maybe remember seeing 1 or 2 of their trucks.

It's like they just disappeared off the face of the earth ... at least to me and I generally don't miss things.

 

Hey ST.... I dunno, I see us all the time..I'm in TN, GA and AL pretty often, Charlotte also.
You get in Arkansas, like bugs on a windshield.
Just south of my house, there is a large glass manufacturer....quite a few glass haulers running 75.
The way the brain works.... you'll probably start seeing maroon every mile , now that you have thought about it.

 

I've ran from Portland to Daytona to Hartford and now to Toledo in the past 11 days or so. Not seen a single Maverick in that span. Seems they're now more geographically confined. Used to see them a lot across OH, PA and VA but I can't find any lately. I noted this to myself a few weeks ago, been looking, and just not seeing them in any of my usual circles anymore.

 

Haven't seen them around here as of late, either. Hmm... I run Toledo on a daily.
