Since you have talked to everyone, have you all approached the school and talked with them?

Some call it the alley dock, some the 45 and then there are some that call it names I can't repeat in here. Whatever you call it this maneuver is the easiest hardest thing YOU as a truck driver will ever learn. Further almost every "back" you will do will have some aspect of it as a part of that particular back. Some drivers have worked on this by using toy trucks. I have spent maybe hundreds of hours out in abandoned docks trying to teach drivers how to do this. Then one day that light comes on and they "get" it. Not meaning to depress you, but I have done thousands of those things and up to the day I retired I have had days when I looked like a rookie and could not hit that dock square if my life depended on it. Moral of my story? Have patience AND confidence in your school, your instructors and most importantly YOU! Stay at it. You will master this. Then in a few years you will start laughing at yourself.

Detroit?Nothing Good ever came out of Detroit. Lol I’m from Detroit myself. It does sound like some bad training going on . No matter you’ll figure it out.If It makes any sense I’ll try. Best way is drive perpendicular to spot and as your looking at spot right in front cut to right and pull up till rear of trailer is near then cut hard left and stop at angle so as to “set up” trying to have rear of trailer lined up to spot . Setting it up right way makes all the difference when starting to back up. They should let you play around for a couple hrs on your own and you can figure it out. There’s a lot of examples on Utube might be worth looking at.
