Be pointless to take a CDL test without a trailer. Cause then you're not a combination vehicle

A tractor alone will get you a class B license, but at least no air brake restrictions.
Really the only difference between A and B is A is towing a trailer greater than 10K gwr. You might want to see if there are driving schools in the area you can rent one for the test. -

Well I kinda figured all that, but stupid me let my licence expire, and now I have to retest to get it back. PLenty of trailers up here at the truck stop, maybe I can borrow one of dem dere.......(JK)

If you go to your local DMV, they should be able to provide you a list of 3rd Party Testing facilities in NC. Some of those will allow you to test using their equipment. I recently did this myself using Trans Tech in Newton, NC.
