I actually spoke with the supervisor at the DMV field office about the poor level of customer service received by me and other students at the school (I was speaking with one of the instructors about another student who was not allowed to test because her name was not on the registration or the insurance policy for the vehicle, WTH is this about? What student is going to have a truck in their name? The truck is the property of the school and their responsibility!) and was told that all DMV employees undergo regular 'customer service' training before being assigned a role working with the public. IMO, this training must be really short because many of the employees I have encountered actually know LESS about customer service than I have FORGOTTEN and none of these employees would have survived my training with their current level of knowledge (I am using that term loosely, because that knowledge is not very significant).
If you ask 10 California residents what state run organization they hate the most, they will likely answer either DMV or the Employment Development Department. If their claim to customer service training and commitment to customer service were true, why would that be? -
I finally passed the pre-trip and air brakes tests in West Sacramento, but failed the skills (I did the straight line and offset-right, but couldn't do the alley dock because my points of reference were off since the DMV and the school 'yard' aren't in the same place). Any tips on alley dock only using the cones and the tractor/trailer? I am having trouble finding the 'sweet spot' to start the move.

What was nice for me and dont know if it would make any difference is the testing was done at the school lot. The school also has like 6 areas to do ally dock and 4 of them can do ally/front & back/parallel park. I would put time in at all of the ally dock areas as each had its own quirk to get it in.
Not knowing what you used for markers at school or what was at the test site it is a little hard to give advice how to make it work.
School had a painted line you would pull parallel to about 1-2 foot off from as a starting point. When the trailer wheels got to the end of the painted line I would start my turn. From that point I would adjust/turn the wheel as needed to guide the trailer where it needed to go. I would sometimes try and point the trailer to the far back corner flag just so I would get the trailer even side to side in the box.
BTW I had better luck getting it on the first try than tries after that in school. Also better doing it in the dark than day light

My school had a 'relatively' flat graveled area with really good points of reference to use, in addition to the cones. The DMV location is paved, and no markings in addition to the cones; but no points of reference.
Does anyone know how many points is considered 100% on the pretrip in CA? They only talk about 67 points as passing. -
Hey im gpimg to take my air brake test and i habe a few questions om cut in test my paperwork says below 100 psi is not a good test but you giys are talking about 85psi to 110psi?
