I'm in my 40's.I've done tons of research on this industry as a second career.Your age wont have a negative affect on you.You right that the speeding ticket may.but if only the 1 then don't worry.Spend your time doing research on school and possible future employers and you will be off to a great start. In other words READ,READ,then POST then READ READ,READ.Till you find what your looking for.In my opinion if you cant do that for 3 straight months night after night.DO NOT GET IN A TRUCK!

According to two recruiters where I work: More than 60% of applicants accepted into orientation are over 40. We can count on 2/3 of those that don't make it being under the age of 35. More than 95% of those over 50 that come to orientation, are with us 6 months later.

So you take it from there. Look around at how many truckers are over 40. By far most of us are (my opinion).
I'm 63 and doing fine. Good luck, kid.

I'm 56 and considering changing careers. I got my CDL in 2008 but then trucking took a serious hit and graduates were not being considered much then. I have been working in a state lab for 23 years and haven't had a pay increase in 4 years. I know trucking can be hard but I figure that is better than turning soft behind a desk. So, I'm going back to CDL school to get my driving up to specs. I presently have 4 pre-hires.

Plus I feel that I have something to offer in trucking that I'm not really making at my day job. I recently obtained a degree in safety and would be interested in working a company's safety department.

My last (and only) traffic incident was in 2003 and have no other issues. Drugs are a no-no as the current work I do is in a state crime lab in the chemistry department. I have access to over 200+ drug standards. I do see how drugs destroys people by what gets submitted to the lab. So, I will have no problems with being drug tested.

Health wise, I was on BP meds but then I was overweight. Losing weight now and BP is now more within range. I have been diagnosed as insulin resistant but with losing weight and being a low dose glucose med, I should be okay.

I'm figuring on maybe later on being a trainer or something to that effect. I know you can make more being on a team. I can't do the husband/wife thing as my husband is insulin dependent. I just hope that I get someone I can work with if I go with team driving. I like the idea of being solo but at times there is safety in having someone else with you. Also, the fact that I have a college degree may be helpful later on in trucking. When the time comes that it would be best to come off the road, I may then get back into an office position.
