Looks like we have one of two possibilities here. Since this is how you choose to introduce yourself to the forum (first post), you're either (1) trolling, or (2) someone who needs to learn a few manners if you want to survive here...

Not learning how to drive a manual is like the new generation working at McDonald's. They know how to take your money but most wouldn't know how much change to give you if the register didn't work.

I'd go with an auto to start off with, to just at least get the CDL in my pocket, then I'd be open to learn a manual afterwards. I'd even go so far as pay for my own brush-up course at a school to learn a manual, so much less stress knowing you already have the license.

And you will forever hold a Class A license with a nice big restriction on it limiting you to certain companies. In order to remove the restriction you must take another driving test and demonstrate your shifting abilities. So why bother taking 2 driving tests? It's a skill that one day will come in handy.

I'm not ruling out driving a manual. I absolutely need to learn. But this company I went through only gave us 3 days to learn. I don't think it can be learned in 3 days. If I can find a company or individual that can help me and not rush the learning, then yes i am keeping an open mind. I just thought if i could get my CDL via an auto, then i could come back later and test in a manual. But i agree, why take the test twice?

Hello ImI new to the CDL world, I am currently active Army and I will be getting out in 2 months I have an Alaskan CDL and is coming down to California I was trying to see if anyone in the form knew of any truck driving schools near or around the Baldwin Park area that teaches how to drive manual trans. I have a CDL with all the endorsements but I would like to get rid of the Restriction "E" that I have. If anyone knows a school where I can just learn how to drive a manual and how much it would be I would appreciate it.
