I'm just curious how this camera could get away with being at board crossings...I am assuming any type of recording device off or on is illegal by United States law?

You can keep the COACHING. Many of us drivers have a sixth sense that you cant measure with a camera, nor can you teach it to someone, its something you learn while driving for years. As far as Smartdrive, just remember when you are parked, that thing is STILL recording you.

Are you really sure you want EVERYTHING you say or do recorded so they can possibly use it to fire you if you listen to the "wrong" radio station or you converse with your wife on the cellphone about intimate matters?

If so, I will leave you with this little quote, from a time long ago:

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

No one has challenged it as of yet. Its still pretty new, but expect to see this as a NEW standard in the trucking business.

Under US law, trucking comes under the commerce clause, so NO it probably isn't illegal, but it's immoral and just plain wrong to spy on a professional driver while in the cab, driving or not.

If it wasnt, your dear bossman or safety director probably wouldn't mind having one installed in his all of his/her vehicles, now would he/she?

Nothing like watching a driver picking his nose, or cussing out his company on the CB radio is there? How about when the wife/GF calls and tells you how horny for you she is?

You still think a "Big Brother" spy video/audio camera is a good idea now?

Yes and no, I see pro's and con's one from a business aspect, and another from a drivers privacy. I'm not a huge fan from it, but you have to also think about it from a business owners aspect..you may be one hell of a driver but if your an unsafe one it could cost money, but I do understand where you are coming from and why you are saying what you are. I am not trying to coach anyone, not tell anyone what to do but stating what I felt were facts.
