5th wheel restriction..?
Never heard. Learn something new everyday.. -
Still, a 5th wheel kingpin adapter post for a gooseneck trailer is only about $100-$150. If you have a friend with a gooseneck flatbed you could buy that post & swap it in for the test..? Easy, only usually 1 or 2 pinch bolts & a removable through pin..

One more option. See if you can find a daycab and trailer to rent. Spend a few hours doing your skill work. Then go take the test.

As for the trailer. Well, what is the end goal of getting the 3500 and CDL? Just to have it? To do car hauling? To do trailer hauling? If we knew what the goal was we could recommend a solution for said goal. -
