Gmc 3500 Dinali HD. And in Mo. You have to test with a 5th wheel or they exclude it on your license

Still, a 5th wheel kingpin adapter post for a gooseneck trailer is only about $100-$150. If you have a friend with a gooseneck flatbed you could buy that post & swap it in for the test..? Easy, only usually 1 or 2 pinch bolts & a removable through pin..

One more option. See if you can find a daycab and trailer to rent. Spend a few hours doing your skill work. Then go take the test.

    singlescrewshaker Thanks this.

Just so you know, that is between a 10,400 and 13,500 GVWR. 8,000 is likely the curb weight. It has no bearing on CDL testing. (Or, for that matter most regulations)

As for the trailer. Well, what is the end goal of getting the 3500 and CDL? Just to have it? To do car hauling? To do trailer hauling? If we knew what the goal was we could recommend a solution for said goal.

This guy is correct. It's about ratings, not actual weight. This is why u-haul, etc. rent trucks under 26k rating. No CDL required.
