If you had any reefer rates leaving AB to points south and what the going rates are for them. The only stuff coming out of there (potatoes or hay) pays very little ... I usually go empty into Washington to load. All I can find is potatoes from Vilna ab to WA for usually about 3.00 per cwt. There is hay (which I won't do again - damaged the chute) for anywhere from 1100 to 1300 depending who you get the load from - from east of Calgary .. can't remember city to WA. Sometimes loads of meat out of Red Deer, but even those are about 1.50 per mile. Not worth the hassle to me. On occasion I will do a cheap load of peat moss, but the only reason is it has almost no empty miles from where I deliver and goes right into where I get my good loads. The peat moss pays me about 1.35 per mile, every mile.

I am growing tired of the running all over the place. I have seen what I wanted to see and now moving into going to get the direct, repeat customer idea. Not quite there yet, but it is in my future.

How about buying the Peat Moss and selling it say in Phoenix in April. I recall a Canadian setting up at the Metro Shopping Centre and in less than 4 hours the load was sold out.

Friend of mine did that years ago after the receiver refused the load and he ended up with a lot more money in his pocket than he would have just trucking it.

As much as I am against cheap freight, I still think its better business sense to haul it if it at least covers the truck operating expense...better then going MT n having nothing covered at all. I know, I know, it contributes to the problem, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do...

Remember this, Cheap Rates are like Illegal Drugs, learn to say NO !!!!! If only more carriers did, the rates would go up.

Well yes, thats very true PB, but we all know that no 2 truckers will ever agree on the cost of a free coffee....so ya know there will never be enough carriers to make it happen...

Always going to be another trucker in line to haul the freight for even cheaper if one guy says no. Sad reality now....

OK, I managed to talk to a guy today through my channels who is doing exactly what I am looking to do. From what he says, deck freight is going for about $3..+ a mile and van freight should be reasonable at $2.50+...just in case anyone is wondering like me. He told me that its best to stay in the western 4 and he runs off of the Transcore board...
