The above post is 100% correct...

There are 1,000,001 possible distractions while driving. I once almost ran someone over while they were crossing the street because I was changing songs on my iPod; stupid, yes - but a distraction just the same.

Also, in regards to the link in the OP's thread. His cell phone use being responsible for the accident is pure speculation. Again, there are 1,001 scenerios that could have caused the crash other than cell phone use. No one will ever know because he's dead.

Ambulances can have CC radios for communication for local hospitals.

There is voice mail you can recieve after you pull over.

It is the proper function of government to set laws regarding public roads(unless you have a better suggestion of whom should regulate their use).

You are quite adept and coming up with stories. Not one of them changes the fact that everybody will admit their are people right #### now swerving around running their blow hole in a car, truck, bus, or bike placing innocents in danger. You know it, I know it, the diety, the windtalker, and all the rest of the" freedom" crowd know it.

But here is the very simple fact all of you are avoiding. They are public roads governed by the public through the government. Poorly elected they may be, but without rule of law the road does not exist. So you have a choice. Convince enough people your stories prove that your personal phone calls are so important they endanger others, or quit using the roads when the technology or law is passed as logic dictates it will be.

See we ban drugs and alcohol becausethey create a danger. We ban texting because they present a danger. We ban substandard equipment because it presents a danger.

Phones will go away because they present a danger.

Most modern cell phones (to include mine) have voice command prompts. I can tell it to call my GF, and it will. Next thing I know, she's on the other line without me ever taking my eyes off the road.

Not doing anything besides watching the road will fatigue you. You do things like talk to people, turn on the radio, etc to keep your mind awake and your eyes moving, especially when driving on a rural highway at 3 in the morning. When driving through congestion, that cell phone better be turned off.

    On another note:

What if you start a drive shift, and someone in your family has been trying to get a hold of you due to a emergency? You wont know it until 11 hours later. Earlier you said talking on a phone doesn't qualify as a emergency when refrencing the 4 wheeler that hit a truck parked on the shoulder. What if the drivers wife called him to tell him their son or daughter was involved in a car accident and in the hospital? Does that not qualify as a emergency to pull over? What if the truck broke down, and the driver called road service?

Ambulances do have radios that are only used for non emergency contact with the hospital.

Er contact is always by phone.

    You want bigger government.

Banning anything does not fix the problem any better than locking your door will stop you from being robbed . All you do is keep the honest ones from doing it . Kind of like hand gun bans stop murder in new york city !

But who really cares if they pass another law. Nobody is going to follow it any better than they follow the speed limit !!!

Will never happen. Last time I checked, the US wasn't a Soviet State.

Since your pal up there is still sniffing around for prostrate cancer I'll ask you.

Now put down your D or R (I have no idea why you people think this is progovernment-antigovernment) and tell me whom should set the regulations for the road.

You would be wrong by the way. The FCC is already working with phone manufacturers towards that end.

I agree. I think that talking on the phone with a blue tooth headset while watching bad pornos on my iPad, playing a quick game of bubble shooter on the laptop on the passenger seat, while programming my next three routes on the Garmin keeps me entertained while driving, and prevents my dozing off at the wheel.

Sometimes, I put a Casio keyboard at my feet and drive barefoot, so I can play chopsticks while eating Chinese food with chopsticks.

I just wish I had a two stick transmission so I had something to do.... :biggrin_2556:
