If it was about safety, They would shut down all cell towers and Go back to land lines, Its not though, it is about making money off of the offenders, $2650.00 for the first time offender and $11000 Plus against the Company.... Don't tell me it is about being safe!

Anyone know if you are still allowed to use hands-free?
-
Sure can. It is a HAND HELD PHONE BAN.
-
I'm sure I do just fine. Many times I have had someone I'm talking to say: "hello?, hello?"...
I've stopped talking because there was something happening that needed my undivided attention.
Yes, but the NTSB is urging the FMCSA and the States for a total ban. If they can convince some States to adopt that policy it will probably lead to a Nation wide ban eventually.
That's the challenge of "giving an inch". Someone always continues to push for another mile. -

I'd imagine that if it came to a total ban in any state or federally, OOIDA and ATA would be bringing suit. The business relies so heavily on mobile access that banning phones entirely would probably be argued to be an onerous burden. -
Why would that be? Hell 15 years ago no one had personal cell's, and few had Bag phones or those old brick things trucks made it to their destinations all the time.
That is a commercial motor vehicle your driving not a phone booth! If you wanna be a phone operator move to Bangladesh

It's about being safe. For people to take this seriously the punishment needs to be swift and severe. If you got a pass the first time, nobody would care. Not to mention they'd have to set up a national database. So they make it a first time punishment with an amount that is going to open your eyes. Yes it's designed to hurt. with the amount being nearly 4 times as much for the companies you can imagine that new policies are being written.
-
Does not seem to be a problem at my company. No changes in the policies.
-
Your company may not suck, I'm not even sure that we've notified the fleet yet.
-
Might be because we are independent owners. The company drivers may have been advised. I will have to check with them.
