Walmart bans cell phone use while driving. Phone records will be aquired to inforce this rule. This puts a wedge between the driver and his family. This begins march 1st of 2012.

Walmart wants your phone records each month?

I questions the legality of making you turn over your cell records to them. I understand they can require their drivers not to talk while driving, but I would think it is an invasion of ones privacy to be forced to turn over your records.

It sounds like its prepaid disposable phone time. They wouldn't know you have that phone. If so, take a relative to go get prepaid phone at Target.

Actually it's the Federal Government, WalMart is just enforcing it, just like my company and hopefully every other one. On top of the $2750 fine that could be imposed on a CDL holding driver operating a CMV, there's now a 10 point fine levied on one's CSA score if caught and fined.

They can't, without a court order. Linde tried this with a few of us and we told them to get a court order and to "pound sand"...Of course, WalMart will just do an end run and install camera's to watch for cell phone usage, once their drivers object to turning over their personal records. A company CAN ban all cell phone usage in their vehicle, (and a lot have already), but they cannot force you to turn over your personal records. A court COULD though, in case of an accident, but WalMart isn't a "court"...

Walmart will just say something like... to insure compliance with new FMSCR law regarding cell phone usage and as a condition of employment you will be required to turn in phone records to prove non usage while driving, non compliance will result in termination. End of problem with privacy laws, also I believe while on or in company property you would have no such expectation of privacy either.

It is only a Federal violation to use a hand held . You can even use a cell phone if it has voice command , speakerphone , and a cradle to hold it .

We got told the same thing...and we told them NO. And surprise, we are all still working. Anyone that would voluntarily do this is insane. But we are IBT and protected from abuses like this.

That is true, but a lot of these companies are moving to ban ANY cell phone usage, with any device, wireless or not, claiming it's a distraction.
