My company issues cellphones. I don’t answer when I’m off duty. One time while I was at home I got a voicemail to call dispatch. So I got on my laptop, signed into peoplenet and went on duty before calling dispatch. The logs department asked me about it and after I explained that all company communications would be performed on duty I’ve never been bothered since on my off time.

I told them to use the Qualcomm. That's where I conduct trucking business.

When I drove hazmat, I filed the use of my phone on my taxes.

Well you gave them your # so you shoulda thought about that before now.....

Will having or not having a phone affect your job??????
If company wants to be calling and use yer data for stuff, ask them for a phone or pay a standard % of your normal ph bill..If they say no,then reply "Ill need a QUALCOMM then" and go change your #..

Cell phone is just a fact of the job to me, like my own transportation getting to and from work. As long as it isn't excessive I don't let it bother me. If I don't feel like answering it I let it go to voicemail until I want to deal with it and just tell them it was put away in the glove box where it belongs while I'm working. They always drop the issue then. I'm more annoyed that I have to buy my own work boots.

It's even worse now. Your expected to provide a tablet with internet for use with your eld. I had to bump my data plan to unlimited.

I would tell them what they could do with their job. It is the responsibility of the carrier to provide the eld. All of it, including the hardware (eld, tablet or whatever) and the data plan.

I got a free tablet from ATT just for adding it to my family plan. 3 devices (including the free tablet) with unlimited data. I watch YouTube and Netflix on it in my sleeper. You guys could use one for your ELDs if you needed.

My employer offers a substantial discount on cell phone service through a certain carrier, so I don't mind using it for work.
