There is usually a feature on the phone to prevent roaming. Verison may have disabled it, as they do lots of features on the same phones that Sprint sells.
Verizon doesn't charge for roaming unless you buy a local plan and then try to use the phone outside of that plan's area. The fault for this problem wasn't with Verizon. I've been with Verizon since 1995, I haven't paid roaming charges in years and years.
Verizon and Sprint share cell towers and only charge for data roaming, as far as I know. I have used Verizon's system while roaming on voice only calls and I never got charged extra by Sprint.
Ranger309, I can't believe you dug up this old thread. The last post before you was 12-04-06, for crying out loud. Heck, even when I was driving otr back in 2001-2003, I had a nation wide plan. Even after taxes, it didn't cost me $100 a month. I found out the hard way, nation wide doesn't include Canada.
I have Sprint's Simply Everything plan, that's unlimited EVERYTHING for $99 a month. Talk, text, internet, TV, GPS, you name it. And I'm pretty content with the coverage, always works when I need it. No roaming. EVER
Avoid pre-paid phones at all cost. They are ALL rip offs. First thing I would do is get off the family plan and go to a Nationwide plan. You can still add extra lines for $10 each a month. Ill bet if you dissect your phone bill this is part of whats killing you. I am quoting Alltel here, but since Verizon has purchased Alltel in the last couple of months they should be very close to the same. Actually Verizon customers are making out like bandits since they purchased Altell... Altell has a NationWide 6000 minute plan for $200 a month or a 4000 plan for $150. That includes everything you have already and then some: free mobile to mobile, nights weekends AND 20 My Circle numbers. If you aren't familiar with My Circle, you should check it out. IMO, its the best deal going in the Cell world. The My Circle numbers let you call a specified phone number (you get to do this for 20 different numbers) and talk unlimited for free. In your husbands case he would simply add his employers phone number to his My Circle, and then those minutes would not apply to his 4000 or 6000 minutes limit. Just be aware you cant use an 800 number with My Circle, but that's easy enough to get around, just use a local number to call his place of business... Actually, you need to check with Verizon since they have acquired Alltel, Verizon customer now get My Circle #'s too. It might cost you an extra $$ a month to add it, but it certainly sounds like it would be worth looking into.
Hey give me a break. I am new here. Yeap, you take a Cingular phone overseas and you will get charged big-time. Sprint and Verizon phones wont work in Europe and lots of other places that only use GSM, not CDMA tech, BTW, so no worrys there.
i have a family plan wit t moblie 3 phones for 125 and talk for free wit each other and moblie to moblie and i think we get 1000 anytime min.wit nites and weekends free
