I'm a Ready Mixer driver in the Detroit, MI area. It's a union job (Teamsters) pay is $30 an hr. OT after working 8 hours any day. OT all day Saturday and Double time on Sundays. Double time for all hours between 11pm-4am. Pension and company paid 401k, excellent health benefits.

We work all year, yes its slower in the winter but there is still work. All concrete companies are hiring drivers but I would suggest applying for a union job. Anyone in Southeastern Michigan is interested send me a PM.

Around here it can be a pretty good deal if you stick with it for 5-10 years. Until then your pretty much only thought of when your needed. I know a guy that drove one for 30 years maybe more. After so many years he had a full time job with fairly predictable hours and they got payed to sit in the office and wait till someone called.
