Good luck on not having to take that road test. Here's some helpful advice, that if you think about it, you should've learned already. A recruiter will tell you ANYTHING to get his/her numbers up!! They are a different type of salesman, for the company, and you are the unsuspecting customer (lamb) being led to slaughter, errr , to the company. I'm curious, but do you honestly think that your training, or lack there of, accordiing to you, is the reason you failed your test??? I'm only asking, not picking, as I wasn't there. I don't have a clue about what you do, box trailers, vans, reefers, etc., but I do know that, whether backing or not, if I'm not sure, I'm gonna stop, get out and go look at it. That's just me, and by no means am I perfect, but my mishaps have taught me some very hard, expensive and valuable lessons. Good luck at Swift, just curious though, why did you choose to go to the National Guard? There's nothing wrong with that, U.S. Army vet 6 yrs., I was just wondering.

What trucking school isn't a crash course? The only thing any school does is get you prepared to go with your trainer! Central is a little tougher on their students which is understandable. Of course they are going to want good drivers running their freight. Just because you couldn't cut the mustard there doesn't mean you lost out. You probably just need a little more training then others. My wife and I upgraded at Central and yes it was a little more entailed but not hard. Don't think of it as the end of your career. There are plenty of companies out there left to choose from. My advice to you would be to stay away from the mega-carriers though. Your chances of success will be much greater. Good luck!

well im going to blame my lack of skills on my first trainer. was with this guy for the full 6 weeks and didnt learn how to shift or back properly. this guy was very annoying. he was so dumb. if i was to try to have a conversation with him about anything he would say aaooo whats that i dont know what thats is. and he sufferd from depression. he would just be crying with tears coming down for no reason. im mean we would just be driving down the road i would look over at him hes crying. we at the flying j eating breakfast hes at the table boo hooing. and to top it off he made me sleep on the top bunk while he was driving.i didnt know at the time that wouldve killed me. and he was gay. i dont have anything against gay people but this guy would bend over and look at me to see if im looking at his butt crack. any how when i got my second trainer it was like night and day. he had a 13 speed and was am o/o he micromanaged every shift i made. if i grinded a gear he chewed me out. he was an ### hole but he taught me well. the backing he taught me as well as he could. much better than the last guy. but i was only with my second trainer for 2 weeks. i should have chose to stay with him for a couple more. when i took the road test the second time it was a different safety person. he says do the 90 degree back between two trailers and take as long as you need there is no time limit. so i was nervous and i was being extra careful. i pulled up and back about 5 or 6 times before i knew i was in position to do the back. i got out and looked about 4 times. but i got it in. and he failed me because he said i took too long. my shifting was fine. i didnt grind any gears. and i double clutched and he wrote that my shifting was shaky. and backing failed. the other two guys i was with were floating the gears, and grinding them. he said there shifting was fine. i didnt grind one time. the only thing i can think of was when we first started i put the truck in 4 gear instead of 2 gear and i looked at the shift stick and put it in 2. i even asked him about why he wrote that my shifting was shaky. he said when i looked down at the gear that tells him i dont know what gear im in. he was being an ###. the first time i took the test i failed misserably. my shifting sucked and the safety guy told me that if i can show him that i can do it he would pass me. same with the backing. he even showed me what i was doing wrong with shifting and gave me quick lesson. oh and after the report i gave about my first trainer having sleep on the top bunk to my second trainer he was fired as a trainer

I am sorry that you had so many issues. But it sounds to me that you are at least 75% responsible for the issues.
If your trainer is not teaching you how to back, then you need to talk to the training dept. and have them get you a trainer that will work on it with you.
As a solo driver you will have to do a 90 degree back between 2 trucks every day. You cannot be on the road if you cannot do this.

As to the DAC thing. I do not agree with what they put down. I think they should just put "failed road test" or "could not drive" needed more training. etc.

Anyway, good luck with Swift. And I really do not think that you should be knocking a company as much as you are due to things that you had at least some control over.

It was an especially one sided conversation here because he started it here, and on a "pro Central" sight at the same time.

I called him out there for some of his foolishness.
Rather than trying to defend his post he just came over here and kept talking to himself.

Now that you are on the correct side of the forum. Here is my post, in case you care to respond.

Did you discuss this with your trainer? If you did and that did not work, who did you go to next?
Are you saying that you consider these inappropriate standards? You put in some time so they OWE you a truck, whether you can perform to basic standards or not?
How many times should they expect it to take?
What should they put? "This guy can't drive"?
Does it matter whether it is acredited or not? You were terminated because you were not able to complete the program sucessfully.
That would seem appropriate. Pay your bill, get your results. But, why do you want those records anyway, you said they aren't acredited.
Of course they expect you to retrain, you failed to complete your last course and were terminated.
You expected DAC fix to be able to take accurate information off the system? If that were true they would have no credibility at all.
You can't pass the test so you find someone that does not test. That is scarry.
Or if you have washed out at that many companies, just practice asking, "do you want fries with that?"

    PS
I have nothing to do with Central. It just bugs me to see someone condemning the world for what would certainly appear to be, atleast in part, his own shortcomings.

Don't get me wrong. I am not just on here whinning because I failed. I am whining because I failed and was unable to use my cdl to try again. Even after I went to a real trucking school to get real training with someone that would take their time to teach me. By them putting a negative mark on my dac and everyone who has failed their test as well, they are ruining peoples careers. I am simply saying don't fail central refridgerated services upgrade test or you won't be able to get a job driving a truck or it will be very difficult for you too.

Hello shawnbfromjersey I am curious to know what happen to you with Greyhound. I remember you posting on this site about how happy you were about getting that job and the pay.

From reading your previous post maybe driving a semitruck isn't in the cards for you. Hope everything works out for you brother.
