The lease payments depend on the truck and insurance for the two of us is different than others. after the first year, ours including everything is $789.43 per week. And as far as the taxes, you do have to account for that, but our rate is less than 16%, but I also will not pay the government a cent more than they are due and estimate thing regularly

 

Newbies, if you ever get a load of onions, keep the inspection hatch open. In case your trainer didnt tell you. Or when you get to receiver like walmart, you will become the talk on the CB!

 

dont want to be stupid here but i never hauled onions whats the reason for for having the inspection door open? just curious...

 

I left after the first year. Mainly, financially. .09/mile pay raise. Practical miles and not zipcode, Dry-van vs Reefer (more drop/hooks) and other benefits. If you are curious PM me. If everything else is the same cup of soup at least more money. 10k a yr is significant.

 

What an appropriate abbreviation CRISIS! I had a fish run. Stay on premises for 10 hours then run like heck to hot-lanta to deliver early am. No joke...2 tire checks only stops arrived 20 minutes early. Told my DM, no wonder these loads are late routinely. If I had a serious bowel movement or even a difficult fueling. Part of the problem is 260 miles of 4 lane expressway that hits every podunk village. They all have a red light with a cop posted nearby....No green ones.

 

From what I have seen, the only way to make sure you make $$ as a L/O is to be a trainer.... It seems (from setting around CRSFO for a week waiting on a truck) trainers are higher on the list for loads than company drivers and straight lease drivers. Plus, the trainers are making .85 per mile they drive and .82 per mile the trainee drives; and they don't have to pay the trainee. (plus they are getting the .39 (+-) for the fuel surcharge. Now that is making some coin!

 

Is $50 per week enough?
With what I have been looking at, one tire (supper single) could take $700+
That would wipe out 14 weeks of maintenance payments...

 

I got into the wrong lane at the scale just (NB I-5) south of the grapevine night before last. Because of the conditions going over grapevine, they had a "Haz-Mat" only on the far right lane (to check haz-mat docs). I missed that memo and it was short so I pulled in. I got red lighted and sent into an inspection lane. The CHP asked me what I was loaded with (looking at my refer) and I told him 30,000# of Jenny Craig frozen food(while handing him my bills). He asked me why I was in a "Haz-Mat" only lane. It took me totally by suprise (normally the right 2 lanes are for loaded trucks, any trucks), not knowing what else to say, I asked him "have you ever eat Jenny Craig?". He just laughed, ask me for the rest of my papers and when into the office. I looked over and both of the cops were laughing..... A few minutes later, I was on my way...

 

OK... so why is that?

 

That cost for a super single is at a terminal, not out in the road.

They recommend $50 a week and 2cpm. If there is something we know will hit the account, I increase it at will. Otherwise, we pay for a lot out of pocket, so it never hits the account. Again I watch all our numbers weekly, but I am a retentive cpa, so what would you expect.
