No, Central does not require you to team. They encourage it, since they'll pay less per person and save a truck payment, but you're not forced to team, other than during your training time with your trainer.

 

The Qualcomm reports your top speed, your over speed percentage, etc etc. So, if you have the truck turned up and you're running along in a truck that exceeds their speed limits (62 for company and 65 for l/o), you're going to show in overspeed. If your truck has to go in the shop for anything related to the computer, they'll find out. If you deal with someone who's in league with Central, they'll rat you out.

Only one problem Central don't hire experienced drivers as company drivers, the Lease I'm not sure about but I will ask Bill in the morning.

 

You run for TWT/System, or Mercer? Wait, you said small, so I'm guessing not System. I happen to live in the same area you do.

As someone who lives in the same area, let me tell you this: you aren't going to be home on time with Central. NEVER. It could be Jury Duty, and God on the phone telling them if you're not home on a certain date, the world will end, and you'll be late. We've been home on time once, maybe twice. There's just not enough freight to spokane.

You might think twice about Central, as you have experience. If your CDL is good, they'll either want you to sign on with a lease (which will keep you more than a year), or they'll want a refresher course. That costs money, and requires a year. Have you thought about maybe Watkins and Shepherd instead? They're only 180 miles away, and they hire people with experience, or so I'm told.

 

Monkeying with your truck is just not worth it. If the speed and power bother you, find a company with a truck that's more suiting to your taste when it's possible.

 

I don't care about hometime, and I'm shocked at people who want all the miles, but want to be home every weekend..just ain't happening.

My CDL is good, no accidents, no tickets since June 1993. Just looking to run without having to team or train someone.

Where is Watkins-Shepard? I've seen their trucks, don't know much about them.

I live in Cataldo, East of Coeur D'Alene. Looking to run all 48 since I have sons in Oklahoma and Pennsylvania, and friends in every state, it seems.

I don't need a refresher, driving right now, with 3 years current experience.

 

W/s is out of Missoula, they haul furniture and carpet.

If you want to work for Central, you'll either have to lease a truck (if they still do that) or take a refresher. They won't take you without getting some money out of you.

If you want all 48, you might also look into Gordon, who's out of the Auburn, Washington area. They haul all 48 if I'm not mistaken.
