Well, since I had to get new feet on my steer axle and rotate the drives anyway, I went ahead and got 'em installed...after doing a little research and getting a very positive review from another member here who I highly respect. (Thank you, 07-379Pete)
At the same time, I had the allignment checked since my inside drives were doing that funny wear pattern where the inside half of the treads were getting chewed up and the outside edges of the steers wore out faster than the rest of the tire. Still, I'm okay will 160K miles on a set of steers. It was toe-in about a degree too far on both sides.
So, Centramatics installed all the way around. First thing I noticed was a disheartening "p-s-s-s-s..." when the truck was moving until it reached about 25-30mph. My first thought: "Now that's a strange air leak. Wonder how I'll find that one." Got to my delivery and checked every air fitting and hose I could find. Chocked the wheels and pushed in the air brake...no leak. Crap. I wonder how much this is going to cost to track down... Then it dawned on me: there are little BBs (for lack of a better description) inside the aluminum Centramatics and until cetrifugal force is applied, they will follow the pull of gravity and slide around inside the balancing device. Duh. Air leak solved.
The next thing I noticed is the difference in the feel of the steering wheel and general ride. It is smoother and has a more stable feel to it. Which does make a difference with an integrated steering system. So, happy with that.
The last thing I noticed was the evening out of the wear pattern on my drives. Now, I'm not sure whether I can blame the tire rotation, the one-degree allignment correction, the Centramatics or a combination of all of them for this, but, really, all I care about is it will save me money in the long run. And that always makes me happy.

I but them on my truck a few weeks back and ....O BOY!!! HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!! my truck was vibrating bad took it to the shop and found all my spring bushings were gone looks like the tires were taking the vibrating so as soon as they were true it had to go someware.....UP
-
Wow! How would keeping the tires in balance destroy your spring bushings?
-
No, I think that the bushes would have already been worn, but when the centramatics were installed and helped to correct the tire balance then the real problem (spring bushes) raised their ugly head.Injun Thanks this.
-
Exactly, Dave. It just sounds better coming from a guy.
*smiles sweetly* -
centramatics are a must have---dont leave home without them
