I was audited in Illinois once. The officer handed me a fax number and told me to go back to the truck to have my logs sent to him. I promptly approved my current logs and then sent off the fax. I normally only approve once a week especially if I'm about to do a re-start or just after a re-start. It's no biggie unless you may want to go back and edit.

I wasn't aware that you had the option of not certifying on some of these e-logs...must be however a particular company has the parameters set?
We're home every day, but are required to log because of the distance we cover. We're required to certify as soon as we go "off duty", and our supervisor can see our status and location real time on his computer. We use Omnitracs.Jdm5jdm5 Thanks this. -

Swift won't dispatch the next load unless the logs are approved as of 0001 of that day, but I don't think they have any other requirements.
But if DOT asks for your logs, be it faxed to them or just looking at the e-log directly, it would probably be a good idea to have everything approved - at least as far forward as your last off-duty or sleeper status.
Leaving logs unapproved for a very long period would just send a red flag for further inspection and scrutiny.
The last DOT officer that looked at my Qualcom logs asked for the unit to look at.
I don't know what he looked at, but he had it for a couple minutes. That would be plenty of time to look at every screen, including the entries waiting to be approved.Jdm5jdm5 Thanks this. -
Eventually the paperless log will become a reality for every commercial vehicle driver. They should rename it big brother, you can run but you cant hide....

You know I always thought that certifying was like signing the logs. But the only thing I can find on FMCSA's website actually isn't the case.
Here's what 395.15 says about certifying. If anyone can find anything more specific I'd love to know.
