Wondering if CHR (A) has any tractor requirements and (B) even has the kind of freight that can be hauled with a daycab. I know they advertise for "local" work opportunities but I'm just wondering how much of a selection they've got when it comes to the sub-300 mile loads.

Yes I've read the thread on all of the "cheap and heavy" BS, just need to find a way to keep the truck I use for end-dumping busy when the rain is hitting and construction slows down.

    Thanks in advance!

CH Robinson won't usually ask you what type of truck you have or whether it has a sleeper. They only think they are interested in is if you have authority, sufficient insurance and the right equipment to haul what is needed. They may also look at your safety score. If you have everything else that they need then you can haul their load. FYI, they will require $1 million in auto liability and $100,000 cargo insurance. Some loads could require additional insurance, but that is the minimum insurance they require. Most other brokers require the same coverages.

They will take it. We are getting the new guy on the farm his CDL and we have an OLD Mack that we have a load from Champaign to Chicago area that would pay well enough to come back MT. But CHR has loads from Chicago to Danville and they will use us. Only do this 7-10 days a month but should provide enough profit to put the guy in a newer truck.

Just glad it is not me.

That's basically the place I'm at right now. Worked my first full year last year with my own truck and end dump (paid cash so I've got no payments to worry about making) and netted a decent living wage working about 8.5(ish) months of the year. The rest of the year was either rained out or there just plain wasn't any work so I'm looking to get a little creative to up my income some, would love to update my equipment this year.

They will take it. There is usually better $ in the short haul loads than the higher $ loads anyway.

I don't remember ever having a broker or shipper ask whether I had a sleeper. I think that most either don't think about it figure that it is your business. You could be asked for motel receipts if you are out far enough from your home base. Other than that I would not be concerned about getting business with a day cab.

I'm hoping I can stay close enough to home to turn a full trip in a day but I guess we'll see what happens there. Freight on the load boards in my area has absolutely exploded in the past couple days.

Not sure about out where your at but around here in the midwest they have tons of short hauls. Most of the short loads pay better than there long stuff also. We use to use them a lot because we had tons of short haul loads going out of here but none coming back. They always had stuff coming back, but , sometimes we'd come back empty because they didn't want to pay enough to make it worth it.
