Snap binders are more dangerous than ratchet binders. Not only putting them on, but taking them off. The only danger isn't getting hit in the face. You have the potential on slippery surfaces of losing your footing or shoulder injury even using proper technique. The safety binders limit some of the risk when removing. We aren't even allowed to use or have snap binders per headquarters.
So first you say that snap binders aren't more dangerous, but every time you use them you have to remind yourself to slow down? Is the reason you have to tell yourself to so down because snap binders are more dangerous?
No, if you read the post I responded to by saying that you would have seen it was.in relation to getting in a hurry. Get in a hurry with ratchets and I'm sure some moron could figure out a way to hurt himself with them. Open is inherently dangerous...especially to.those that get in a rush.
I lost my footing crouching down undoing a ratchet binder and cranked it right into my lip lol oops. Had to hide it from the safety people on site so I didn't get stuck there for a couple days. I don't use snap binders. Not allowed to because of site rules.
Snaps are more dangerous, there's no denying that. They are still useful though. I find snaps work better on loads that have some give in them, like wheeled equipment and the like. If you use them on tracked equipment of heavy steel, you wind up either having to leave them too loose or trying to latch them too tight. Trying to latch them too tight is where you'll have the greatest possibility of getting hurt. I've seen cheater pipes go flying across the parking lot before, luckily I've never seen anybody hit with one. Hold onto that cheater pipe at all cost. We've got a Landoll trailer where the only attachment points are chain slots. It's almost impossible to use snaps on it because you can't get a "half" link like you can attaching to a D-ring or stake pocket.
I have a touch for a bit of hyperbole from time to time. In actuality it would be 20, two to a pullup hook point on the ravens at either end of the big one through the eye. Straps went over the top usually 10.
Straps should be outlawed cause i lost my fitting and racer planted into my winch bar. Peanuts should be outlawed cause someone once chocked on one. Coffee is hot and you might spill it on yourself. So better get rid of that.
Ok, I'll grant you more dangerous. In the same way that taking the stairs is more dangerous than taking the elevator. Pay attention to what you are doing and the safety issue is a non issue.
