Well as of now, as evident by this thread, most OTR companies aren't paying their drivers to chain as it is. So, it's a starting point. And if we are being honest, I would probably say about 75% of OTR driveres probably won't chain up regardless of circumstances and for those that do, they're probably not doing it for the $8 per hour pay that I'm proposing but to get more miles and to keep moving. So, at least they're getting paid something for their extra work.

And as of now, as evident by this thread, most local or regional drivers who chain on a regular basis consider it "part of the job" even if they're being paid on a CPM basis. So, for these guys, I think $8 an hour would really add up over the course of the year if they're going to do it all the time anyways. And these guys may even be able to chain up super fast, so it might come out to more than $8 per hour if they are really good and quick at it.

Anyways it's a starting point. But of course as always, the more money being compensated for drivers doing on duty items the better (and it's long overdue in this industry).

You drape the chains over the tires, and connect them at the bottom. It's pretty simple, really.

I agree. It’s way harder drive on them then to drape them on the outside tire folded over and Flip it over onto the inside. I don’t understand the idea of running singles on duals. They’re no easier.

Of course if you've got big hands and arms, it's a fight trying to get the links connected behind the tire. Sometimes a bungee hook duct taped around a stick might help. But then you're contorting to get those links together.

So if it's a chain up area where there's still traction, I'd just go with the whole "draping chain, wedge the front of chain in front of tire and drive about a foot" to attach them without having to wedge yourself between tires.

Of course if you've no got traction, be prepared to do some work lying down and yelling at people walking up. "Let me be miserable by myself!!" **gets kicked for being sour** "Ugghh my kidney!!"

Of course I had to chain again this morning after getting stuck on the dairy farm dropyard. A good drift of snow blew in front of the loaded line at Hartley. Got to work and froze to death putting the four outside drives on and also put my truck shovel to work clearing snow. Luckily everyone parked at the yard was still on bedtime at 0600 or didn't want to deal with the cold. So no one bothering. Get to the dirt road where the snow is non existent or not deep and remove them all.

Chains just to drive a whole couple of blocks. But better than a service call:)

Like I mentioned in the post, Hartley TX. A dairy farm where the milk is pumped into the tanks and away it goes. Normally doesn't get like that out there.

When you wrote "Hartley", I thought that was the name of the shipper, not the geographic location. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah. I could see that confusion. Most of the time, we just put the city name on the transflo sheet.
