Best thread on TTR, pure comedy gold.

    Extra pay to chain lol

I've chained up several thousand times, maybe I should send my old boss a bill for back pay.
He must owe me $250,000 at least.

Appreciate all the laughs gentlemen, you're all great!

So basically your saying as a company driver you feel you should be compensated extra for everything else you do besides holding the steering wheel ??
My reply is you agreed to except that driving job and the requirements to do that job at the wages that were offtered... & now you feel you should be compensated extra for those requirements???
Pretty simple solution to remedy that issue
    Find a better job
    The self entitlement strikes again

A lot of drivers I’ve known have their own policy as it pertains to this. Basically if chains are required, they don’t drive. Lol
Now I’ve chained up a few times and ot wasn’t that bad. But honestly, if the roads are so bad they require chains? Sitting might be best.

    D.Tibbitt and tscottme Thank this.

As an employee, I should be, and am, compensated for every minute I do work for the benefit of the company. Be that driving, fueling, fixing the truck, or even sweeping the shop floor.
I'm a mercenary, not a philanthropist. Pay me enough and I'll do anything legal Don't pay me you get nothing from me.

I've worked at places where we didn't get paid to chain. We didn't get paid to tarp either. When I went to work there I was told on the very first day what the deal was. I agreed to their terms because I wanted and needed the job.
I never liked chaining and to this day I still don't.
But, a deal is a deal.
If a driver doesn't like the terms of his job the door is always open.

I'am glad you find it funny also ..
    LMAO
I agree with you.. if your getting paid hourly wages then your wages should reflect that
If someone is getting paid by the mile what you quoted is my view

    D.Tibbitt and Pamela1990 Thank this.

See, that's the thing. I don't see cpm pay as a valid pay for anyone. For employees it's simply giving your time away when you have to do non-driving work. For owners, well it's rare they get cpm now. It's typical "by the load" and not really by the mile, although yes milage obviously plays a part.

And in vast parts of this country people only eat because there are thousands of truck drivers that can and will chain up and deliver goods. I'm not opposed to starving Seattle, Portland, Denver plus a few dozen other cities. But using tire chains is not playing Russian Roulette unless one approaches it carelessly. Snow also means less vehicles on the road. Those vehicles do the usual stupid things 4-wheeler do plus their special stupid snow tricks. The CA to NY flip-flop wearing guests from the other side of the world will do their usual stupid tricks, but that doesn't mean one can't safely do the job. Maybe it does to the drivers that park as soon as their windshield wipers sweep in front of them.
