Ran into a really nice Liberty driver in Vegas that had converted all chains to straps. He cut holes in the decks for the straps to come out and cut out a se tion of the roller and put Molly square rounded tubing 1 inch. Any other ideas suggestions? On my way to pick up an olde 8 car to put behind my freightliner. Can't sell it so might as well put it to work.

Wasn't the first thing to pop up but I found it. Pretty cool, care to share the cost?

The one the liberty op showed me converted the chain to strap, he claimed less than 10 per station in parts, he did the welding tho. I am going to try starting with the bottom deck. On the top deck he has dual assemblies, one for the strap, one for the chain where the tire sets, one for the strap, it allows the tires up top to drop down a couple a inches for clearances.

Ok I've seen guys do that too but with some of the really low profIle cars you run into clearance issues ( on the 1st pic)
The one on the boydstun decking works the best but just make sure you add some angle iron under the strap box so it doesn't sag

The one problem with the above link (mod) is that it is normally installed in the center of the deck and not on either end. That causes issues with the tie down bar being way to close to the side of wide vehicles (suv's etc)

It is pretty simple to do if you have the right tools. You can cut the aluminum deck and weld round bar all the way around the hole. Then you can do one or two things with existing ratchets. Either plasma cut a slot where you need it to put the strap through or bend a piece of round bar so it is connected at both ends of the old chain ratchet. Just need a small gap to put strap through.

After using the hooks in the aluminum deck for a while you'll notice the holes will ware out. I've reinforced the most common used holes with steel.

Would you mind sharing how you reinforced the aluminum with steel?
